“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself”
- Leo Tolstoy
Today’s quote is from the Russian writer, philosopher and activist Leo Tolstoy (1828 – 1910). Translated from Russian to English, the above quote is one of his better-known sayings. But taken out of context, some of his original meaning is lost. Another, fuller translation is as follows:
“There can be only one permanent revolution – a moral one; the regeneration of the inner man. How is this revolution to take place? Nobody knows how it will take place in humanity, but every man feels it clearly in himself. And yet in our world everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself”
So as you go through the day – consider this statement by Tolstoy and ask yourself “What is my inner revolution? What am I doing to change myself?”
By changing ourselves, we change the world around us!
