“When I was young, my ambition was to be one of the people who made a difference in this world. My hope is to leave the world a little better for having been there.”
- Jim Henson (1936 – 1990), Creator of the Muppets
Today (September 24) would have been the birthday of Jim Henson – creator of the muppets, Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, several movies and more. In short, he had a massive impact on children growing up in my generation as well as an ongoing affect on children growing up today. Put that in light of the quote given above – one of Jim Henson’s goals in life was to make a difference in the world, and he did it by creating marionette/puppet characters for children.
Who would expect that? Who would expect the creation of muppets to make a difference in the world? I have to admit that it isn’t something I would have bet on – but it did.
Now think about how this applies to yourself. What do you want to do with your life? Do you think your dreams are too small? Too insignificant to matter? No dream – no goal – is too small to change the world, to “leave the world a little better for having been there”. Jim Henson changed the world with puppets – just think what you can accomplish with your own dreams!
Give that some thought today. Then sing along to “It’s Not Easy Being Green” and see how many people join in…
