“Don’t think. Thinking is the enemy of creativity. It’s self-conscious, and anything self-conscious is lousy. You can’t try to do things. You simply must do things”
– Ray Bradbury
Similar to Daniel Pink’s quote from yesterday, today’s quote reminds us that conscious thought is the enemy of creativity. Give your unconscious mind room to breathe and be creative – take a break from the tasks that have you stumped.
This is also something important to keep in mind at work! Grinding through a 2 hour meeting may lead to fewer creative ideas than a 15-minute brainstorm session followed by “creative downtime”. Give it a try, make changes as necessary, try again – and the result may be shorter meetings, better ideas, and happier employees!
